Fishing continues to heat up in Charlotte Harbor as we move deeper into spring. This past week brought a strong sea trout bite in Turtle Bay and across the grass flats along the West Wall—especially during the warmer parts of the day.
We also found a productive deep mangrove hole where a dozen quality redfish were caught, all on live shrimp.
Out in the open water, Spanish mackerel have been showing up in good numbers both inside the harbor and just a few miles off the beach in the Gulf. There’s also been a mix of small cobia and a few 5-foot bull sharks hooked nearshore.
The tarpon are starting to make their way in. We spotted a school of about 25 fish rolling on the East Wall—not a huge concentration yet, but a good sign of what’s coming in the weeks ahead.
Until next time, tight lines!
