Current Conditions

The recent cold weather has shifted a lot of fish off the open flats and into the deeper canal systems throughout Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte. These protected areas are holding more stable water temperatures, making them the most reliable option right now. Slower presentations and bottom-focused techniques have been producing the best results.

Canal and Inshore Bite

The deeper canals have been holding some quality fish. We have been catching bigger Sea Trout mixed in with Jacks and a few smaller Snook. The bite has been slower paced, but anglers willing to fish methodically and stay patient are being rewarded with better-than-average fish.

Bridge and Structure Report

Sheepshead have been stealing the spotlight this week. Excellent action has been coming from the bridge structure, especially around the 41 Bridge and the Placida Trestle Bridge. Fishing live shrimp tight to pilings and along the bottom has been producing steady bites, with fish stacked close to structure.

Live shrimp has been the top bait across the board. Fishing shrimp on the bottom has been the most productive approach, particularly in the colder water. Pinching the tails off the shrimp helps release extra scent and has made a noticeable difference when fish are less aggressive.
