Punta Gorda & Charlotte Harbor Winter Fishing Report
As winter settles in and cold fronts pass through, the fishing action in Punta Gorda and Charlotte Harbor has shifted into its exciting winter pattern. Anglers are seeing plenty of opportunities for great catches, with sheepshead, sea trout, snook, and redfish making it a rewarding time to hit the water.
Sheepshead Action Heating Up:
The winter season has brought excellent sheepshead fishing to the area, with prime spots including the canals of Punta Gorda Isles (PGI), the docks around Boca Grande, and the mangrove-lined channels. These hard-fighting fish are actively feeding and provide plenty of action for both novice and experienced anglers.
Sea Trout Biting in Deeper Water:
Sea trout fishing has been very productive in slightly deeper waters. Live shrimp fished on the bottom or slowly worked under a popping cork has proven to be highly effective. The combination of patience and the right bait presentation is key to landing some quality trout this season.
Snook & Redfish Best in Afternoon Warm-Ups:
Snook and redfish have been more active during the afternoon hours when the water temperatures rise. Protected areas, such as leeward shores and calm backwaters, have been the most productive. Focus on fishing these areas later in the day to increase your chances of success.
Whether you’re targeting sheepshead around the docks or casting for sea trout and snook in the afternoon, winter fishing in Punta Gorda is offering fantastic opportunities. Bundle up, hit the water, and take advantage of the seasonal bite!
Until Next Time, Tight Lines!
